Article Marketing is the #1 Traffic Strategy

Once you apply the multipliers which is search engine data for content sites, affiliate programs for sales sites and then after one-time promotions, my #1 strategy which I have found to be the most effective method of getting traffic to new sites as well as old is submitting articles with a short promotional blurb in a resource box at the end of the article.

There are many avenues to get your articles distributed. You can posting articles at EzineArticles.com or GoArticles.com, Associated Content and SearchWarp all good places to submit. You can also use services like iSnare.com or ArticleMarketer.com and pay to have your articles distributed. Another way to distribute is to use software like Article Submitter Pro or Article Post Robot.

There is nothing wrong with any of these techniques. I have used them all successfully. But there is a much, much more powerful method of article marketing that most marketers miss- ezine and newsletter marketing.

First I want you to get a grip on the potential of article marketing and then I want you to get a grip on how small of a slice of the pie the above methods cover. Go to Google and type your one word topic followed by the word "article" and then followed by the word "articles". So if your topic is "golf", then search for: golf article, golf articles. Then repeat the above process using "ezine", "ezines", "newsletter" plus "newsletters". I want you to make a note of how many search results are returned for each of these -these are the results your competition is missing. Thousands of article marketers are all competing for the attention of just a tiny fraction of the total market for article distribution, while missing the important ezine and newsletter channel for distribution.

4. The "Advertising Specialty" Strategy

The "bonus: a (your product's name) T-shirt..." strategy informs future customers that they are going to get a specialty item as a bonus which they can use in their every day life. You'll get free offline advertising by placing your product information on the item. It could be your product name, web site address, etc. Some good advertising items are coffee cups, bumper stickers, key chains, pens, license place covers, etc. You can also tell them the quantities and that it's on a first-come, first-served basis - once you run out, that's it.

5. The "Commission Call" Strategy

The "make (no.)% commissions on this call..." strategy informs future customers that if they sign-up to your affiliate program and promote your free tele-call they can earn money. Just tell them to get people registered for the free call and you'll help close the sale for them. You could even tell them if they make over so many sales they will get a prize; the product or higher bonus commissions.

6. The "Myth And Fact" Strategy

The "MYTH: (a description of the myth). FACT: (a description of the fact)..." strategy informs future customers a myth that would stop people from purchasing your product and a fact which quickly eliminates the myth. For example, MYTH: You need a big investment to start your own business. FACT: You can start your own successful business today for only $10.

7. The "It's Your Fault" Strategy

The "if you don't (your product's benefit) this (week/month/year) it's because you didn't read this letter..." strategy informs future customers they won't benefit unless they read your sales letter. In your sales letter you can give them tips for gaining their desired benefit but tell them your product will allow them to gain their desired benefit quicker and easier than your competition's.

8. The "Perfect Time" Strategy

The "have you ever wished you were in the perfect place at the perfect time to (your product's benefit)..." strategy informs future customers they can take advantage of one of those situations by purchasing your product. You can tell them that you have a new feature that your competition doesn't have; you offer a patented benefit that no one else can offer; you teamed up with another business so you can offer them more for their money; etc.

9. The "Behind The Scenes" Strategy

The "I've secretly helped successful (topic) experts for years..." strategy informs future customers that you work behind the scenes to help these experts become successful. You can even ask the experts that you've helped to give you an endorsement or testimonial. You can tell them now you are finally going to allow the masses to get your help and product so they can become successful too.

10. The "Personalized" Strategy

The "it can be personalized..." strategy informs future customers that they can custom order your product with their business name, web site address, logo, or any other advertisement on it. If it's just for normal consumers, you could say their name, picture, pet, age, etc. Or if it's going to be a gift for someone else, they can personalize it with that person's personal information.

You did it! You finally took that leap of faith and started your own business. You have a website, and you are ready for your first client. The only problem is no one is visiting your site. When consumers are online searching for a particular product and enter your keyword, your ad will show up in the sponsored ad section. There are several companies available to help you with this, and many of them come with a free trial period. Constant contact and I contact are a few good companies to take a look at. It is important that you have the consumer's permission before sending them an email. You do not want to be accused of spam. Not only does spam turn a customer off, it is a quick way to get a bad reputation for your business.

Make sure you get professional business cards with all of your contact information listed. You want to include your business name, address, phone number, fax number, email address, and of course your website. Hand them out as often as possible; during business functions and even at the grocery store. You never know where a potential customer may be. Flyers are another great marketing idea. You can have them printed professionally or if your budget is tight, print a few yourselves. All you need is a color printer, glossy paper, and a software like adobe PageMaker, or Microsoft word. Post your flyers wherever possible; grocery stores may have bulletins, your local library, and your local community center. Once you start to gain customers, it's important to keep in contact with them. It is much more expensive to attract a new customer then it is to have a repeat customer. Send out postcards to keep them abreast of what's new with your company. Let them know when you will have sales and promotions or if you have a new product available. You can even send them a birthday card or a Christmas card.. This will keep you on your clients mind.

If you put all of these methods into action, you will start to see traffic to your website. And of course, the more traffic to your website, the greater chance you have of making that sale!

  • When you are writing regularly, you see article ideas everywhere.
  • Keep a pad and pen with you or a voice recorder to capture your article ideas as they come. One of the most de-motivating things that can happen is to have a great idea, not capture it, and then not remember the idea when you sit down to write about it.
  • Keep in mind at all times the results of regular article writing and marketing. You may even want to write the results down somewhere that you can see everyday. In addition to the pure pleasure of writing, the results are the most motivating factor for me.
