List Building - The Squeeze Page Versus the Sales Page Game

Squeeze pages by definition are to squeeze out a name and address from your visitor in exchange for your opt in incentive. It is a two way thing. You get the name and email address and they get your freebie. This gives you the opportunity to maintain contact with them over time and build a relationship.

Sales pages have their own role. To sell the product. That said , not every visitor will make a purchase first time round.

When people arrive at your website sales page there are just 2 main things they will do. Buy what you are offering or leave your website without buying. If you have a squeeze page then they can leave but at least leave their contact details for follow up.

Research shows that it takes 7-10 exposures at your website before people make a purchase. Sending a prospect directly to your sales page is basically sending them there cold and you are relying on the 1-3% that will be swayed by your sales copy. The question is what are you doing about the 97% that do not buy the first time they visit your sales page?

Clearly 3 out of every hundred is not going to make you the profits you set out for online. It is simply a waste of your traffic. This is where the squeeze page comes in.

It forces those who would have otherwise left your website without a trace to reconsider and leave you their details for follow up in exchange of course for your high value opt in incentive.

This then allows you to build a relationship with your visitor and remind them to re visit your website sales page at a later time. You can expect a better conversion this way. Additionally, you can send them to other pages that you think will be useful to their online preferences.

The squeeze page option allows you to build trust with your prospects, find out what they want and provide it. Think about it this way. Getting married to a total stranger at the first meet is not an every day occurrence.
